Zohaib Khan Honored as Pride of Pakistan for Transforming IT Industry

Pakistan’s IT sector is celebrating a major recognition! Muhammad Zohaib Khan, the former chairman of Pakistan’s IT industry association, P@SHA, has been officially honored as a “Pride of Pakistan” for his exceptional contributions to the nation’s burgeoning IT landscape. This prestigious announcement was made on the eve of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, held at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.

This accolade is particularly significant as Muhammad Zohaib Khan stands as the sole P@SHA chairman and one of a select few business leaders from the IT industry to ever receive this distinguished recognition. With an impressive career spanning over two decades in the IT sector, he has consistently represented Pakistan on various global platforms in different capacities, earning numerous awards for his unwavering dedication and invaluable service to the country.

During his impactful tenure as P@SHA chairman, Pakistan’s IT industry achieved remarkable milestones. The nation recorded its highest-ever IT export earnings, surpassing $3.2 billion in FY24. Under his dynamic leadership, Pakistan proudly hosted the APICTA Awards for the very first time in 2023, a significant event for regional economies. He also spearheaded several pivotal initiatives, including the establishment of IT export awards, securing crucial tax incentives at both federal and provincial levels, advocating for 50% retention of foreign exchange in bank accounts, and collaborating with policymakers and a private bank to form the “Tech Destination Pakistan” initiative. Furthermore, he successfully revitalized the P@SHA secretariat and its vital research and development unit.

Beyond national growth, Zohaib Khan played a crucial role in enabling Pakistani IT companies to broaden their reach and expand their presence in competitive international markets, notably within the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region and across Europe.

Currently, his commitment to advancing Pakistan’s IT future remains strong as he actively participates in the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). In this capacity, he is working tirelessly to boost Pakistan’s IT exports to an ambitious record of $10 billion in the coming years. Additionally, he has been serving as the proud brand ambassador for the “Tech Destination Pakistan” campaign since its very inception.

Commenting on this momentous occasion, Muhammad Zohaib Khan shared his thoughts: “Pakistan’s IT industry has the profound potential to be a game-changer for our nation and its economy. We are witnessing consistent growth in exports and significant digital transformation across governance and other critical sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and banking. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our beloved Pakistan and its IT industry for granting me the invaluable opportunity to contribute to its development and progress.”

The “Marka-e-Haq” celebration ceremony was a distinguished event, attended by prominent figures including Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Field Marshal General Asim Munir, the Chiefs of Armed Forces, esteemed diplomats, and a host of other dignitaries. The ceremony also honored several other individuals with the “Pride of Pakistan” title for their outstanding contributions across various fields.
