Ready for iOS 26? Check iPhone & iPad Compatibility, Plus All New Features & How to Get the Beta

Ready to try Apple’s iOS 26? Here are all the compatible iPhones that can run public beta 2 today

Get ready for some major changes! Soon after the big Apple iPhone event, we’ll finally see the release of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. These updates promise huge upgrades for your iPhone and iPad. One feature that’s generating a lot of buzz is the visual overhaul called Liquid Glass. It’s a stunning new design that we’ve had the chance to test-drive for two weeks. If you’re eager to try it yourself, you can download and install the public beta 2 today. While public betas are generally stable, remember there’s always a slight risk with any beta software. We’ve also heard credible reports that iOS 26 could bring a fantastic new live translation feature to AirPods.

But the big question for many is: will your current device be able to run iOS 26? Unlike last year, Apple is indeed dropping support for a few older iPhone models in 2025. This means if you have an unsupported device, you won’t be able to download iOS 26 when it officially arrives this fall. We’ll help you figure out if your device makes the cut.

We’ll dive into which iPhones and iPads will support iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 this year. For a broader look at what Apple announced, you can check out all the highlights from Apple’s WWDC June 9 event. One thing you shouldn’t immediately expect is the updated version of Siri, though Apple is reportedly working on a more streamlined AI chatbot to compete with offerings like ChatGPT.

These three iPhones won’t be compatible with iOS 26

Unfortunately, a few iPhone models released in 2018 won’t be able to run iOS 26. If you own one of these, it’s time to consider an upgrade if you want the latest software:

What if I don’t want to buy a new iPhone?

If your current iPhone isn’t supported by iOS 26 and you choose not to upgrade, that’s perfectly fine. However, you will miss out on crucial security updates, which could potentially expose your phone to malware and other online threats. Additionally, some newer apps may stop working if they require a newer iOS version. And, of course, you won’t get to experience all the exciting new features iOS 26 has to offer.

When will iOS 26 become available?

Apple typically releases its latest iOS version in mid-September, usually just a few days before the new iPhones hit stores. Last year, iOS 18 was released on Monday, September 16th. Expect a confirmation of the exact release date at the upcoming iPhone 17 event, likely in early September.

iOS 26 features we’re excited about

Liquid Glass design: Your home screen is getting a fresh look with redesigned app icons, including dark mode and all-clear options. You’ll also notice a cool new floating design for buttons. Liquid Glass is designed to make all of Apple’s operating systems feel more unified and cohesive.

Phone app redesign: Finally, you’ll be able to scroll through contacts, recent calls, and voicemail messages all on one convenient screen. It also includes a new Hold Assist feature that will notify you when an agent is back on the line, saving you from endless elevator music.

Live Translate: iOS 26 introduces the amazing ability to have real-time translated conversations, whether through phone calls or text messages, with someone who speaks a different language.

Polls feature: Coming to group messages in the Messages app, this feature will let chat members create polls. Say goodbye to dozens of messages when trying to decide on a meeting spot or dinner plans!
