85% Telecom Sites Restored in Flood-Hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In a remarkable display of rapid response, 85% of telecom sites impacted by the recent devastating floods and cloudbursts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been successfully restored within just 48 hours. This significant progress comes after a natural disaster that severely crippled communication networks across the region.

The severe weather events had damaged over 200 telecom towers, leading to widespread disruption, particularly in the areas of Swat, Buner, and Shangla. Communication, vital for residents and emergency services alike, was brought to a standstill in many parts.

Responding swiftly, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), working hand-in-hand with Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs), launched intensive restoration efforts. Their immediate action aimed to minimize service downtime, and as a result, the majority of communication systems in the affected regions are now back online, reconnecting communities and enabling essential services.

PTA teams were on the ground quickly, visiting the impacted areas to assess the damage firsthand and holding crucial meetings with local administration officials. These engagements proved critical in coordinating relief and restoration activities effectively. Sources from PTA confirmed that local authorities and political leaders lauded the quick turnaround and the technical expertise applied to resume services under challenging conditions.

While 85% connectivity is a major milestone, work is still ongoing to bring the remaining telecom sites back online. PTA has reassured the public that every possible measure is being taken in close collaboration with CMOs to achieve complete recovery as swiftly as possible, ensuring minimal further disruption for users.

Adding to the relief efforts, Cellular Mobile Operators are also providing free on-net voice calls in the flood-affected areas to support the communities. The PTA stated it will continue to closely monitor telecom services in these regions and provide regular updates to keep the public informed of further developments.
