Google will reveal more Gemini smart home plans and devices on October 1

Google is gearing up for a major announcement on October 1st, promising to share more exciting details about its “Gemini for Home” initiative. The tech giant teased on X (formerly Twitter) that “Gemini is coming to Google Home,” even hinting at a potential new Nest camera in the accompanying image. This highly anticipated reveal builds on their Made By Google announcement last month, which first introduced us to Gemini for Home and its impressive capabilities.

So, what exactly does Gemini for Home mean for your smart living space? Essentially, it’s set to replace Google Assistant, bringing a whole new level of natural language understanding and intuitive controls. Imagine asking your smart home for recipe ideas using only the ingredients in your fridge, getting advice on big purchases like a car, or even troubleshooting a tricky appliance – all with conversational ease. Like its competitor Amazon with Alexa and Alexa+, Google plans to offer Gemini for Home in both free and subscription-based versions.

The teaser image strongly suggests we’ll be seeing at least one new device: a refreshed Nest camera, possibly a wired security camera based on its appearance. There’s also buzz around an “unknown Nest speaker” that briefly appeared during a past Google live stream, which many hope will make its debut. While Google previously mentioned at CES that Nest Aware subscribers (who pay $10/month) might get early access to Gemini in Google Home, this hasn’t been recently re-confirmed. If you’re eager to stay in the loop, you can sign up for updates directly from Google.
