Porsche & Audi EVs Gain Tesla Supercharger Access in North America

Great news for electric vehicle owners! Starting September 9, Porsche and Audi EVs will significantly expand their charging options, gaining access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network across North America. This development marks a major step towards universal charging compatibility and enhanced convenience for luxury EV drivers.

This move comes after the Volkswagen Group, the parent company of both Porsche and Audi, announced in December 2023 its intention to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles, including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Scout Motors.

The key to this expanded access is a special adapter that allows these non-Tesla EVs to connect to the NACS ports found at Tesla Supercharger stations. Tesla originally developed this connector and subsequently opened it up to other automakers, a decision that has rapidly pushed NACS to become a dominant charging standard in the region.

Porsche is leading its NACS adoption with a “soft launch” approach. Existing owners of Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric models can reserve a complimentary NACS to DC adapter via the My Porsche app. During this initial phase, drivers will use the Tesla app to manage their charging sessions at Superchargers, with integration into the My Porsche app expected in the coming months. Looking ahead, Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric models from the 2026 model year onward will include a free NACS adapter as standard. Owners of 2024 or older models who wish to access the network will be able to purchase the adapter for $185 from Porsche’s online shop or dealerships.

Audi is also rolling out its own branded adapter, which will be available with newer 2025 model year options, including the Q6 e-tron, A6 Sportback e-tron, and e-tron GT. However, Audi has specified that its Q4 e-tron models will not currently have access to Tesla Superchargers.

Both Porsche and Audi are actively working on software updates to seamlessly display Tesla Supercharger locations within their in-car navigation systems, promising an even smoother travel experience for their EV drivers. While this is a significant leap for Porsche and Audi, it’s noteworthy that other luxury brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, such as Lamborghini and Bentley, have yet to commit to adopting the NACS standard.

This collaboration is a game-changer for EV charging infrastructure, offering Porsche and Audi owners unparalleled convenience and peace of mind on their journeys, knowing a vast network of fast and reliable Superchargers is now at their disposal.
