Alert: Faisalabad ATM Scam Gang Is Preying on Unsuspecting Citizens

Alert: This ATM Scam Gang is Looting Citizens in Faisalabad

Faisalabad residents, beware! A sophisticated gang of fraudsters is actively operating across the city, carrying out multiple scams and preying on unsuspecting citizens. They’ve already stolen significant amounts of money, mobile phones, and ATM cards, leaving a trail of victims. It’s crucial to stay vigilant, especially when using ATMs or in public places.

One of the most alarming incidents unfolded recently outside an HBL branch on Millat Road, within the Sargodha Road police jurisdiction. Humaira Zia, a data entry operator at NADRA, became the latest victim. As she was using the ATM, three men approached her, cunningly posing as bank staff “on duty” at the machine. They persuaded her to hand over her ATM card and PIN under the guise of assistance. In a swift move, one of the suspects switched her card inside the booth. Shortly after, a staggering Rs. 151,805 was withdrawn from her account.

Other Reported Cases Highlight a Disturbing Pattern

Authorities have confirmed that Humaira’s case is far from isolated. Similar frauds have been reported from various parts of the district, indicating a coordinated effort by this criminal group:

* In 197-RB Gatwala (Madina Town), a man named Mansoor was robbed of his cash and mobile phone.
* Lathani Pull saw Nasir Ahmed tricked out of his money and phone through a similar scheme.
* In Samundri’s Circular Road area, Siddique Ahmed also fell victim to the gang’s deceit.
* Near Kashmir Pull (Madina Town), Imran was approached by suspects asking for directions, only for them to flee with his ATM card, Rs. 12,000 in cash, and his phone.
* Dilshad Ahmed was conned in Gurunanakpura (Gulberg police limits) using comparable tactics.
* In 409-GB, Tandlianwala, Ali Husnain was similarly targeted by the fraudsters.

Police Action and Your Safety

Police have taken serious note of these incidents, registering multiple cases under Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code. A comprehensive search operation has been launched to trace and apprehend the suspects involved.

However, prevention is your best defense. We urge all citizens, particularly in Faisalabad, to exercise extreme caution:

* Never share your ATM card or PIN with anyone, regardless of whether they claim to be bank staff, police, or offer “help.” Bank staff will never ask for your PIN.
* Be suspicious of strangers offering assistance at ATMs. If you encounter an issue, contact your bank directly or use the bank’s official helpline.
* Secure your belongings. Keep your cash, mobile phone, and ATM cards out of sight and in secure pockets or bags.
* Be aware of your surroundings in public places, especially near banks and ATMs.
* If anyone asks for directions, maintain a safe distance and be wary if they try to engage you further or distract you.

Stay informed, stay alert, and protect yourself from these opportunistic criminals. Your vigilance can help stop this scam gang in its tracks.
