Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Will Be Released December 4 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
The wait is finally over! Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the highly anticipated next chapter in Samus Aran’s saga, officially has a release date: December 4. Even better, it’s launching for both the original Nintendo Switch and the brand-new Switch 2. Fans with the new console can look forward to a dedicated version featuring upscaled graphics and other enhancements, much like the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
While we knew Metroid Prime 4 was slated for 2025, getting a concrete December 4th date is incredibly exciting. Earlier this year, we were treated to a fantastic trailer that showcased new power-ups for Samus and gave us a glimpse into the thrilling first-person adventure. The gameplay truly seems to capture the essence and atmosphere that fans love about the Prime series.
This time, Samus will be exploring a vibrant jungle planet, battling malevolent alien creatures – no doubt including the iconic Metroids themselves. As a first-person title, the game emphasizes environmental scanning and clever puzzle-solving, setting it apart from the 2D action of games like the excellent Metroid Dread.
It’s been a long road for this game. The original Metroid Prime launched all the way back in 2002 on the Nintendo GameCube. Metroid Prime 4 itself faced a challenging development, with Nintendo ultimately deciding to scrap the project entirely in 2019 and restart from scratch. This makes the upcoming release even more significant, a testament to the dedication behind bringing Samus’s next adventure to life.
The Metroid series has a rich history, dating back to the NES original in 1986. It’s one half of the influential Metroidvania genre, a style of game that’s currently enjoying a resurgence with titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong. While we eagerly await December 4, a price for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has not yet been announced.
