Donkey Kong Bananza is getting a DLC expansion today

Get ready, Donkey Kong fans! What’s arguably been the best game of the year, *Donkey Kong Bananza*, is dropping its first paid expansion today! Titled *DK Island & Emerald Rush*, this DLC promises a whole new adventure.

As the name suggests, you’ll finally get to explore DK Island, the iconic home of Donkey Kong, and reunite with many of his classic pals. There’s plenty to discover and uncover in this new area, but that’s not all. Once you’ve completed the main game’s story, a thrilling new challenge awaits: the Emerald Rush.

Emerald Rush mode throws you into timed missions where your goal is to smash as much green ore as you can. As you dash through the levels, you’ll find fossils that unlock various perks. These perks are key to maximizing your emerald haul, offering multipliers on your collection or even making more treasure chests (packed with emeralds, of course!) appear. It has a cool roguelike twist: your perks reset after each run, but the locations of things like fossils and Banandium Gems stay the same. This means you can learn the layouts and refine your strategy to become an emerald-smashing pro!

Even better, the Emerald Rush isn’t confined to the new DK Island. This exciting new mode will be integrated into other levels from the main game, extending the fun across your entire *Donkey Kong Bananza* experience.

True to the game’s delightful charm, this DLC looks like an absolute blast. While it’s scheduled to go live today, the price is still a mystery as it hasn’t appeared on the Nintendo eShop just yet.

And if you haven’t jumped into the main game yet, good news! Nintendo is also releasing a demo later today, so you can get a taste of the Bananza fun before diving into the full adventure (and this awesome new DLC!).
