Balatro’s ‘Big 2025’ Update (1.1) Delayed: Not Coming This Year
Bad news, Balatro fans: the highly anticipated 1.1 update, sometimes called the “big 2025 update,” won’t be arriving this year after all. Developer LocalThunk just announced that the update is now delayed and will be released “when it’s done.”
This might sting a bit, but it’s important to remember who’s behind this incredible game. Balatro, along with its original balance patch and the excellent mobile port, was created by a single person. LocalThunk, the lone genius, admits he’s “well and truly burned out.”
LocalThunk apologized for the delay, explaining that it simply “has become clear now that it won’t happen by the end of the year.” We appreciate the honesty and transparency; it’s much better to know now than to wonder for months where the update is.
“I still consider this my hobby,” LocalThunk wrote. “The prospect of rushing the work and going back into crunch mode to get it out this year just felt terrible.” This perspective is understandable and puts the developer’s well-being first, which is something we can all get behind.
Now for some good news! The update is definitely still coming, and it will be completely free for all players on all platforms. Plus, LocalThunk even hinted that this 1.1 update might not be the final additional content for the game, so there’s more to look forward to in the long run.
For those new to the hype, Balatro is an incredibly addictive deckbuilding roguelike loosely based on poker. Many consider it the spiritual successor to poker we never knew we needed, and it has quickly become a genuine gaming phenomenon.
While we’ll have to wait a little longer, it seems clear the delay will be worth it for a polished, burnout-free update.
