Pakistan is making concerted efforts to accelerate its digital transformation, with a crucial meeting of the Spectrum Advisory Committee held today at the Finance Division. Chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the session brought together key stakeholders to strategize on an effective spectrum policy that can unlock the nation’s digital potential.

Experts from the telecom industry and the GSMA shared valuable perspectives on how strategically managed spectrum can fuel the growth of IT and telecom services. The discussions highlighted its potential to significantly boost exports, create much-needed jobs, and promote broader digital adoption across Pakistan.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the insightful contributions from industry leaders and the GSMA. He underscored the critical importance of adopting global best practices for Pakistan’s spectrum roadmap, emphasizing the need for timely progress on spectrum allocation to seize emerging economic and societal opportunities for the country.

Further reinforcing the government’s commitment, Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar reiterated the vision for a digitally connected Pakistan. They stressed the importance of ensuring inclusive, affordable, and high-quality connectivity as the bedrock of the nation’s digital transformation journey.

The high-level meeting underscored the pivotal role of spectrum policy in shaping Pakistan’s digital future, with a clear focus on fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and delivering widespread societal benefits.

The significant gathering saw the participation of Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Mr. Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA, alongside senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory bodies, and representatives from leading mobile operators.
