Ready to try Apple’s iOS 26? Here are all the compatible iPhones that can run public beta 2 today
Get ready for some massive upgrades! Soon after Apple’s annual iPhone event, we’ll finally see the official launch of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. These updates are set to revolutionize your iPhone and iPad experience with significant new features.
One of the most thrilling changes is the visual overhaul: Liquid Glass. Think of it as a sleek, refined take on past transparent designs. We’ve spent two weeks putting it through its paces, and you can even try it out yourself by downloading and installing the public beta 2 today. While beta software always carries some risk, this public version is generally more stable than the developer versions. There are also whispers of a new live translation feature for AirPods coming with iOS 26, which would be a game-changer!

Are Older iPhones Being Left Behind This Year?
Unlike last year, Apple is indeed dropping support for a few older iPhone models in 2025. While iPhone 8 and iPhone X models were phased out in 2023, this year it’s the 2018 lineup that won’t be joining the iOS 26 party. If your device isn’t eligible, you won’t be able to download iOS 26 when it officially arrives this fall.
It’s worth noting that while iOS 26 brings many exciting things, don’t expect Apple’s fully updated, smarter Siri right away. However, reports suggest a “stripped-down” AI chatbot to compete with ChatGPT is in the works.

What if I Don’t Want to Buy a New iPhone?
It’s perfectly fine if you wish to continue using your older, unsupported iPhone. However, be aware of the trade-offs. You’ll miss out on crucial security updates, which could leave your phone vulnerable to threats. Additionally, some newer apps might stop working, and of course, you won’t get to experience any of the exciting new features iOS 26 has to offer.
When Will iOS 26 Become Available?
Apple typically releases its latest iOS version in mid-September, usually just a few days before the new iPhones hit stores. Last year, iOS 18 arrived on September 16th. Expect an official confirmation of the iOS 26 release date at the upcoming iPhone 17 event, likely in early September.
iOS 26 Features We’re Excited About:
* Liquid Glass design: Get ready for a refreshed home screen with redesigned app icons, including new dark mode and all-clear options. Buttons will also feature a new “floating” design, all aimed at creating a more cohesive Apple operating system experience.
* Phone app redesign: Finally, you’ll be able to scroll through contacts, recent calls, and voicemail all on one screen! Plus, a new “Hold Assist” feature will notify you when an agent is finally on the line, saving you from endless hold music.
* Live Translate: This incredible feature in iOS 26 will allow for real-time translation during phone calls or text message conversations, bridging language barriers effortlessly.
* Polls feature: Coming to group messages, this will let chat members create polls, making group decisions (like where to eat dinner!) much simpler and avoiding lengthy message chains.
