Space Invaders Movie Still On: New Writers Join Warner Bros. Film

The Space Invaders movie is apparently still happening

Remember that *Space Invaders* movie? The one that was supposedly in the works years ago, then went silent? Well, it looks like it’s still on the radar, with recent reports indicating some new movement!

According to *Deadline*, a fresh creative team is now on board. Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, known for their work on *The Out-Laws*, are set to pen the script for Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema.

This film adaptation of Taito’s iconic arcade game has been a long time coming. Warner Bros. first acquired the rights back in 2014, sparking initial excitement. In 2019, it was even reported that Gregg Russo (*Mortal Kombat* 2021) was writing the screenplay. However, with the new writers stepping in, it seems the project has taken a different path since then.

As of now, there’s no official word on a release date or how they plan to adapt the simple yet classic alien invasion premise into a full-length feature. Interestingly, video game adaptations have been really hitting their stride lately, with many successful releases. This renewed interest in the genre might be exactly what *Space Invaders* needs to finally get off the ground and onto the big screen. Only time will tell if these pixelated invaders will truly make their cinematic debut.
