Trust, Security & Innovation Pave Way for Pakistan’s Cashless Future: Easypaisa’s Jahanzeb Khan

At the recent GSMA Digital Nation Summit in Islamabad, Jahanzeb Khan, President & CEO of easypaisa digital bank, shed light on a critical trifecta for advancing digital financial inclusion in Pakistan: customer trust, robust security, and innovation-driven product design.

During a fireside chat titled “From Cybersecurity to Digital Payments – Ensuring Trust in a Cashless Future,” Khan underscored the pivotal role digital financial platforms play in accelerating the nation’s financial inclusion agenda.

“easypaisa is proud to be at the forefront of Pakistan’s journey towards a cashless, digitally inclusive economy,” stated Khan. He emphasized the importance of striking the right balance between convenience for users and unwavering security. easypaisa is committed to collaborating with stakeholders and policymakers to cultivate a thriving digital economy, believing that it’s the responsibility of platforms like theirs to ensure trust and safety are not just inherent, but also visibly clear to users, reinforced by intelligent backend safeguards.

Advocating for the Government’s and State Bank of Pakistan’s Cashless Economy initiative, Khan called for a more interconnected, secure, and truly inclusive financial ecosystem. This vision, he stressed, requires partnership among all parties to empower and engage every Pakistani in the formal digital economy.

Highlighting easypaisa’s commitment, Khan detailed their adoption of a “Privacy by Design” framework. This approach integrates data protection principles into every stage of product development, ensuring secure and scalable solutions for customers. The goal is to simplify onboarding, expand access for previously unbanked communities, and thereby significantly advance financial inclusion across the board.

The GSMA Digital Nation Summit itself brought together senior representatives from the Government of Pakistan, mobile operators, digital innovators, climate and finance experts, and international partners. The collective aim was to foster collaboration for building a secure, prosperous, and digitally inclusive Pakistan.

With an impressive reach, easypaisa now serves 1 in every 5 Pakistani adults, boasts a 31% female user base, and has processed over 2.7 billion transactions worth PKR 9.5 trillion in 2024—a sum equivalent to approximately 9% of Pakistan’s GDP. These figures solidify easypaisa’s position as a trailblazer, continuously setting new benchmarks for digital banking and financial empowerment nationwide.
