Watch NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 Astronauts Return to Earth
The excitement is building! After an incredible five-month mission aboard the International Space Station, the astronauts of SpaceX’s Crew-10 are finally heading home. Their Dragon capsule, aptly named Endurance, is set to make a historic splashdown today, August 9, at approximately 11:33 AM Eastern time off the coast of California.
Endurance undocked from the ISS on August 8 at 6:15 PM Eastern. Aboard are NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov. They departed just a week after Crew-11 arrived to continue the vital work on the orbiting laboratory.
During their long stay in microgravity, Crew-10 played a crucial role in expanding our understanding of human spaceflight. They conducted numerous studies, including research into the physiological and psychological changes humans experience during long-duration missions, which can range from weeks to a year. They also observed fascinating phenomena like how blood flows from the brain to the heart in microgravity, contributing valuable data to future deep-space missions.
This return journey marks a significant milestone for NASA’s Commercial Crew program. This will be the first Commercial Crew mission to splash down in the Pacific Ocean; previous capsules have typically returned off the coast of Florida.
Don’t miss the chance to witness this momentous event! NASA will broadcast the crew’s return live, with coverage kicking off at 10:15 AM Eastern today, August 9. You can watch the Endurance capsule splash down into the ocean on NASA+ or via live streams available on NASA’s official YouTube channels. Following the successful retrieval of the astronauts, NASA will also hold a teleconference, which will be broadcast live on their website. Tune in to welcome our space heroes back to Earth!
